This piece explores the significant amount of waste created by the fast food industry around the world. To illustrate this concept, the top ten global fast food corporations (based on the total number of restaurants) were sampled. The video here documents a live feed from Twitter. When a user on Twitter includes the name of any of the ten sampled fast food corporations, their tweet is shown and a piece of discarded packaging is added to the screen. Over time, the waste increases, emulating the forms in which waste accumulates in the ocean, such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This piece conceptually explores the affect that the fast food industry has on the environment, particularly emphasizing single-use waste.
