Plastic Food For Thought: You Are What They Eat
2020. Reconstructed sashimi platter made with discarded plastic food packaging.
A contemplation of the circular relationship between the food we consume and it's plastic packaging we discard.
The Remains of One Basket
2020. digital photography.
A conceptual photo series documenting the waste of one shopping basket's worth of products purchased during a weekly grocery run.
Ironically, reminiscent of product advertisements, the series highlights the importance of mindful purchases and consumption. Though items from a health-food store are typically deemed "healthier," single-use plastic packaging is unhealthy for the environment.
afternoon in waikiki
2019. digital photography.
a candid photo series that explores an afternoon walk in Waikiki. While the beauty of Hawai'i is undeniable, one cannot discount the dissonance between the media’s portrayal of a picturesque paradise and the realities that locals experience daily.
wasted space
2015. digital installation - live recording.
A live digital installation that explores the significant amount of waste the fast food industry creates worldwide. To illustrate this concept, the top ten global fast-food corporations (based on the total number of restaurants) were sampled. The video here documents a live feed from Twitter. When a user on Twitter includes the names of any of the ten sampled fast food corporations, their tweet is shown, and a piece of discarded packaging is added to the screen. Over time, the waste increases, emulating the forms in which waste accumulates in the ocean. This piece conceptually explores the fast food industry’s effect on the environment, particularly emphasizing single-use waste.
